Hi Everyone! Thanks for your answers to my request for advice. Here is a compliation = of the results. Hope it helps others of you in the same situation: About cataloging: * Bar code everything with full MARK records, * Put bar codes on AV equipment as it goes out - helps keep track of = inventory, * If it goes in the library, it gets barcoded and checked out like = everything else, * Don't bother with a full MARC record - just one that is = descriptive enough so you know what it is. About theft: * There are usually too many keys "floating" around - custodians and = others have access to materials too easily, * Have the locks rekeyed with only the librarian, principal, and = assistant principal having copies, * Mark everything AV and theft potentials with the school's name in = a highly visible place with an indelible paint pen, * Get a "lock box" for especially vunerable materials (digital = cameras, PHDs, etc), * Place bar codes on everything and make sure everything is checked = out properly - helps reduce some theft. Again, thanks so much for your valuable time and help! You guys are the = best! :) Vickie Wolfe, Media Specialist Grover C.
