Hi, Folks - When we closed our inventory this year, about 80 fairly new books turned up missing. In addition, most of these books fit into the fantasy category. I considered the strong possiblity, even though we have never had a problem with book theft in the past, that this was the work of one student or a small group of students. This week a parent, whose son had moved up to the high school this year, came by with a large bag of books. I assumed that she brought them to donate to our media center. However, she told me that they belonged to our library, and she had found them in her son's room as she was packing for a move to Oklahoma. There were 30 fantasy titles in the bag; some of them had the barcodes and spine labels removed. She said she would return any others that she found. It pays to stamp your books. However, the best part of the book return was the Abercrombie and Fitch bag used to return the books. The bag has a poster-sized, wrap-around picture of a half-dressed hunk named Rob. The school staff and I have been enjoying Rob jokes all week. I suggested that Rob could be the star of a new reading promotion for eighth grades girls called "Check out what Rob's Reading" or "Between the Covers with Rob." The staff refers to Rob as my new boyfriend. When several of us went out to dinner one night last week and they asked where Rob was, I said he was such a great guy that he insisted on staying behind at the media center to shelve all of the books returned during the day.
