Here are the responses I received:
I will be working on the "Faculty Favorites" idea and
trying to promote one favorite each day on the morning
announcements

None of these are original--I've cooped them from
various folks from
LM_Net.

1. Set up a patron as Winner! Winner! and check out
a number of books to them. When a student tries to

check them out. . . it will come up as Winner!
Winner!. I'm planning to give the student a piece

of candy and then checking out the book to them.

2. I'm giving out a slip of paper each day of next
week with a different piece of candy
"Be a smartie and visit your library."
"Light a fire under your students with a library
           visit." (fire candy)
"Your library is worth a mint."
"Our library is out of this world." milky way
     "Stick with your library." gum

3. Display "Favorite books of the library staff"

4. Trivia contest each day: number of books in the
     library, etc.

Good luck!

In the past I've combined the two by encouraging
students to copy a
poem from one of our poetry books, carry it with them,
and then gave out
tickets to teachers to stop kids in the hallways,
cafeteria, etc. and
ask if they had a "poem in their pocket". If they
could pull out a poem,
the teacher gave them a ticket to pick up a prize
(candy) in the
library. I got the idea from someone else on LM_NET
quite a few years ago.
It went over very well with both our staff and the
students.

This year I am providing lunch (20 per lunch period on
a first signup
basis) in the library for students who will share
either their own poem
or a favorite poem by someone else. We call it "Pick
a Poem and
Picnic". I am also displaying poems using the
magnetic poetry activity where
they must write a poem using only the words on the
Poetry Page which I
provided. We have a magnetic board in the display
case and will put a
new poem out each day. These activities probably
wouldn't work well on
short notice but the top idea could work.

One year for Poetry Month I typed out several poems on
colored paper,
laminated each. Everyday during the week I hung a
different poem in
each of
the staff bathrooms. I didn't tell anyone I was doing
it and it took a
couple
days before I was found out. They loved it and the
poems were
mentioned
several different times. They were sharing with each
other about the
poems
found each day in their restrooms. We are a small
school and I only
had to do
poems for 5 staff restrooms. It was a very effective
to get poetry out
of the
books.
