Wednesday afternoon my principal informed me he had 100 girls/women
coming in to volunteer for 3 hours 8-11 on Thursday morning. They were
available to help any teachers in our school there that day. As you can
imagine, I was there at 7:15 getting ready for the early birds. WOW! At
one point I had over 35 people working in the library and throughout the
building for me. We unpacked, processed, and moved over 1200 "essential
literature" titles, prepared library cards for over 600 projected students,
hung posters, put out all the new magazines, stamped all new books,
prepared bookmarks, and more. They worked about 1.5 hours and it was
amazing. Can you imagine the moving and unpacking of over 50 boxes of
supplies and books that occurred? The principal came to see how "General
Chen"
was mustering the troops. It seems I was the only one in the building who
could organize and handle the sheer number of volunteers and who had the
most work to accomplish. Seeing these junior high and high school girls
sorting, alphabetizing, comparing invoices, and creating was exciting.
I wish everyone could experience this phenomena once in their life.
I have never been so ready for the beginning of school!
