I also discovered the Trelease - Rawls connection through Jim Trelease's
website last Spring. My only disappointment was that the statue of Billy
and the dogs was placed at the Idaho Falls Public Library rather than in
Oklahoma....but good ideas start where they were born!

However, Oklahoma does have the "Rawls homestead" that was recreated for the
movie: http://www.ifpl.org/rawls/movie.html

it is now at Tsa-La-Gi (Cherokee Nation) in Tahlequah.

Here's the link to Trelease's material about Rawls...
http://www.trelease-on-reading.com/rawls.html

This is a GREAT story to tell those "inspiring young writers" who believe
that their work is just not quite as good as someone else's....if they've
read the story it should spark their writing and provide them with the
incentive to never quit writing and always believe in themselves!
