I attend East Carolina University in North Carolina. I am receiving my
master's degree in Library Science which includes my certification (since I
am not a certified teacher). My classes only cost me about $300 per class
and they have all been online. I can't imagine paying $1000 per class. If
I had to pay that much, I would never have thought about getting my Master's
degree.

Subject: Online classes Some thoughts to consider

Folks,
I know it is expensive with online classses. Jersey City University
is the
cheapest. I be paying $1000 for my course in the fall. But that is the
same
cost for graduate work if I attended Jersey City University in person.
I can only speak of my experience with Jersey City University online
classes.
First, my department chairman knows my name and has offered her help in
any way
possible in getting my masters. I even have her home phone number.
Second, my professors have been great. There is more personal contact
through email with my professor than in a regular class.
The standards and certifications are changing in Jersey. No Child
Left
Behind is driving this. I know that Jersey City University has a
contact in
the department that handles certification. If there are changes with
certification my program can be changed so that when I finished there
will be
no question on my qualifications.
My program is heavy involved with technology. Its a nice mixture
running a
traditional library and technology.
The classes are small and there is a big push in students
communicating with
each other.

The best advise is to talk to your state department if you are going to
get
certification or masters. Each state is different.
Some courses require you to come on campus. A course that cost $500
might cost
more if you have to travel to it.

I hope this helps someone.

An after thought You can deduct the expensive from your tax return or
maybe a
distict will pick up some of the cost.
