we are changing from a 9-12 school to a 7-12 for the fall - it has been a
long time since I worked with 7th & 8th graders - our middle school is
being eliminated with 6th going back to elem - they also eliminated a
librarian

skills had previously been integrated but the principal decided that the
8th grade needs a library class - I'll have students 1 day of the 6 day
cycle all year for a graded class - I know this stinks but it is non -
negotiatable - If flexibility isn't an option -I'd prefer a class for grade
7 since that is the first year in the building

I plan an orientation lesson to the OPAC for grade 7-8-9 - plus information
about locally available databases that are on our network

A pre-test may be good idea - will talk to the former MS librarian who now
has pre K- 6 in 3 buildings

I know some of the 8th grade teachers will work with me and the library
period can be used for students to do research for their classes - this
should help since I'm also teaching research classes for grade 10 and have
a homeroom making flexible scheduling of the library more difficult. Two
other teachers have classes scheduled in the library since we don't have
space elsewhere.

what I need are some rubrics or assessment sheets that can be used for the
grading part- previously I've graded works cited pages and various items but
the grade was integrated into the subject grade

Since there is currently no curriculum for this course - I'm open to
suggestions from anyone who teaches fixed schedule classes at this level

I need to make the make the best of a less than ideal situation.
