It must be the crazy time of the year. I got an email from the VP this afternoon asking if I have been coming in late as he is getting complaints that I am not opening the library on time. It seems that the teachers must be here 1/2 hour before classes begin - especially those with study halls, and he thought I should have the library open that same time. And, of course, students feel that if they are here and I am here, I should have the doors open for them. Well, the problem with this is that the principal specifically set my hours as 8-4 so that I would be here after school to help students. He gave me a full period in the day to help get some of the things done I must do, and has told me to block in more time if I need it, by occasionally asking teachers not to send study hall students some periods. This I do not abuse, of course. So, I emailed the VP with this info, he replied that he just wanted to be sure the library was open the posted hours. - Of course, he should know the posted hours as he has Freshmen who come in for Orientation and he sat through my intro four times in which I repeatedly told the boys the hours the library is open. So, now I think I will make a special point of stopping by hi office in the morning to say hi and let him see that I am here on time...Oh, thank goodness the Christmas Break is coming. They are unhappy because I have too much "free time." We are set up on a semi flex schedule where k-3 grades come to the library every other week (they go to computer class the week they do not have library). They seem to think that since I do not have a classes straight through from 7:45 until 3:30 that I have too much time on my hands. They went as far as to add up every minute of free time that I have (including the 5 minutes between classes and my lunch time although everyone at my school has a duty free lunch) and gave a list to the principal to show all the "free time" that I have. They also included open checkout time (which we have from 8:00 - 8:45) as part of the "free time" I have each day. I found this quite funny because they had me having between 3 to 5 hours a day free time every day of the week! I guess they don't realize the number of books that have to be shelved, processed, etc. I wonder how much free time they must have to spend it figuring out all of my "free time." Luckily, I wasn't the only one being picked on, they did the same for the computer teacher which follows the same schedule that I do. I wonder what they will think when we go to a complete flex schedule (as the principal has said that we will be doing soon). Has anyone else had similar complaints? Thanks for listeing to me complain about complaining!
