As always the responses from this group gave me many
possibilities and a lot to think about. Thank you so
much. I am sorry that it has been a couple of weeks,
but I got back from my internship just in time for my
two book fairs to arrive and to complete my two
budgets. I have posted my website just today. It is
nowhere near finished, but I will be sharing it with
my classmates soon and so needed to upload it. The
temporary URL is:

http://fc.hermon.net/~kaline_goodrich/HMSLibrary/

although I am sure that will change once I have it
approved by my district. It is definitely an
amateurish effort right now and I would welcome any
suggestions. I have only just started filling it the
teacher and parent pages, so don't expect a lot from
them. I am aware that two of the graphics on the home
page are not working.
The responses everyone sent are below, minus names.
Thanks again to everyone who helped.

I've just published my LMS website, really just
testing, and realize I need to change a few graphics,
etc and add home page picture--HOWEVER, you might want
to check it out, I have a parent page, may be what you
are looking for, maybe not. Let me know your
thoughts, I have not announced it in the school
community as yet, need to clean a few things up and
finish adding ar quizzes (5700--quite a chore). My
sister has previewed it, and not discounting her, but
she is a loving supportive sister and so proud her
little sissy even created a web site, not sure she can
be critical other than the obvious loopy pictures.
Anyway would like your input-- - you may visit at

How about links to the NCLB site, they have free
materials for parents.
.......................

You might want to include links to sites that include
recommended reading by grade level. I am often asked
by parents what books their child should be reading. I
also included a link to book adventure.com - that's a
free web site that allows kids to take tests over
thousands of books. Sort of like Accelerated Reader or
Reading Counts.

Here's what I did - but it hasn't been updated or
checked in almost 3
years.

These are a couple I found a while back that might be
useful. Certainly not exhaustive.

http://www.angelfire.com/pa2/Boisvert/ safesights.html
safe sites for parents and students
http://www.angelfire.com/pa2/Boisvert/ Search.html
educational search engines

http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/ Federal Citizen
Information Center, Pueblo, Colo

http://www.state.tx.us/ State of Texas online (Can't
tell what state you are in).

Also, what about websites for "challenges" kids have
that can give the parent more information, like
http://www.interdys.org/ International dyslexia
society. Special ed sites
http://specialed.freeyellow.com/
the special education homepage

Just some ideas.

A quick Google search netted these sources.

The first place to start is to identify what your
target parent audience would need. It could be quite
different from what my parent body would want. Having
established that, it is easier to search for and
select sites that will be relevant.

Don't know how general or specific you want ¯ but
http://www.ldonline.org might be useful to parents
with concerns in that arena.

Here is the address of an outstanding middle school

and here is Deb's parent page address............

Checkout our school district's website. I know they
have a section devoted to info for parents. The
address is: http://www.jackson.k12.mo.us

I might also add a section explaining about overdue
notices, fines etc. Perhaps if you have any annual
events that involve parents you can add them here.

I am not a parent either, or understand the complexity
of this suggestion, but here goes

I was talking to a parent last week and she said that
on her daughter's web site she can go look at the
girl's grades, [she noticed that the daughter had a 94
on homework (and was kind of copying it from friends)
and a 78 on the test (not doing homework comes back to
bite you on the heel)] I think probably The best might
be a Teacher's Page for all the teachers that parents
go to.

a spot for grades (but that involves a password)
Teacher's name and e-mail for classes a home work
page, listing what is due this week or tomorrow coming
events for that class (test on Thursday, field trip on
Friday)

just some thoughts

Look at www.irvingisd.net

You're welcome to look on the parent resources page
I've put together if it will be of any help.

......................................................

A lot of public libraries have links for parents. You
could try going to Google and typing in something
like: library links for parents and see what you
get. I came up with dozens of hits that looked
promising.

Willow: Gee, maybe we should help Giles. He might be in danger.
Xander: Nah, he's like Super Librarian. People forget, Willow, that knowledge is
the ultimate weapon. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
