How about a "switch places for the day"? You can even have fun with it and
call it a "Freaky Friday Fiasco!"

You take a second grade class (as a substitute teacher would) and then allow
the second grade teacher--their choice of the candidate--to switch places
with you.

Make sure that you put down all of the things that she will need to be
doing....checking in books, shelving, processing, teaching classes, doing
storytime, preparing for storytime, ordering new textbooks, writing a grant
perhaps, and then cleaning up after each class---plus any extra
duties....have her also make sure that she SHOWS what she's done at the end
of the day...after all, it's such a "free day" that we'd have to have proof
of what she'd done (or even accomplished!)

----I'd even ask for materials to be pulled on a specific topic (history of
Christmas, perhaps) and then ask if she'd have the time to create a
bibliography of the materials available for everyone to share...since she
has SO MUCH TIME....

(...."a walk a mile in my shoes" may shut them up when one of their own is
speaking on your behalf rather than YOU being the one to describe the day!)

If you do this, make sure that your principal takes the time to visit this
teacher / librarian during the day to take some notes on how difficult it
just might be....
