Librarians ARE the ultimate search engines. I feel strongly that we
should be actively teaching that fact to our students every day. Last
year our school spent a lot of time on "essential questions" and
"enduring understandings". I decided on 3 enduring understandings -
three things that I wanted all students to understand about libraries
and librarians by the time they graduated:
Libraries provide access to books, magazines, multi-media resources and
online databases designed for both research & leisure reading needs.
It is important to be a critical, competent & ethical user of
information
Librarians are information resources and can help patrons find
materials for information and recreational needs that cannot be located
using library catalogs and search engines alone.
