This first comment wouldn't fly, of course, but my first thoughts would be= : "Give me your top 5 rationales why every school needs a certified school administrator=2E=2E=2E=2E??" (This goes back to administrators NOT knowin= g how to describe what we do --- or even knowing what we do=2E How many of US coul= d NOT come up with 5 good reasons why we need a certified administrator in our school? Why is it, then, that these same administrators--with their certifications and degrees up the wazoo--- can't figure out five good reasons to have a certified librarian at their school?)---stepping off the= soap box=2E Here's my real answer: The same situation exists in the administrative scenario as it does in the= library: * to provide professional knowledge, skills and guidance to teachers, students, and parents regarding the library's resources and services=2E * to create, implement, and administer effective policies and procedures that provide an atmosphere of educational learning and growth=2E= * to provide students and teachers with effective information-seeking skills in order to achieve academic success=2E * to implement programs that allow for networking opportunities to connect the school environment to the community (parental support, busines= s support, community support, etc=2E) * to guide, direct, inspire, teach, and provide continuing educational= services to students beyond the walls of the traditional school by providing technological connectiveness to those involved in the education process (online databases, homework hotlines, mentoring listserves, parent= help-lines, etc=2E) My list would continue=2E These are the types of questions that "inspire = me" to compare administrative roles to those of the professional librarian=2E = We still must share with our administrators that we are more ALIKE than different and that we ARE needed in every school! =20 Just an opinion=2E=2E=2E ~Shonda Brisco Trinity Valley MS / US Librarian Fort Worth, TX sbrisco021@charter=2Enet Original Message: ----------------- From: Diane Mentzer dmentzer@UMD5=2EUMD=2EEDU Date: Mon, 29 Dec 2003 20:00:37 -0500 To: LM_NET@LISTSERV=2ESYR=2EEDU Subject: GEN - certified LMS in all schools I received a request from my supervisor for some info he can use in a=3D20= paper he has to present in January=2E Below is his request to me=2E If you= =3D20=3D have any great ideas of things I can tell him to include please send=3D20 them to me=2E I have read all of the reports and studies so I do not need=3D= 20=3D links to any of them=2E Thanks in advance=2E Please give me your top 5 rationales for having a fully certified=3D20 library media specialist in every library media center=2E =3DA0I am =3D preparing=3D20 some position papers and don't want to leave anything out=2E --=3D20 Diane Mentzer techmom@comcast=2Enet "I always call the library a gold mine, because there's treasures in=3D20 there=2E And a lighthouse, because it gives you guidance=2E And a buffet,=3D= 20 because you can eat as much knowledge as you want and never be full=2E"=3D= 20 Artis Lovelady=3D =3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D= -=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D=3D-=3D-=3D- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law=2E To change your LM_NET status, e-mail to: listserv@listserv=2Esyr=2Eedu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL 3) SET LM_NET MAIL 4) SET LM_NET DIGEST * Allow for confirmation=2E LM_NET Help & Information: http://ericir=2Esyr=2Eedu/lm_net/ Archive: http://askeric=2Eorg/Virtual/Listserv_Archives/LM_NET=2Eshtml LM_NET Select/EL-Announce: http://www=2Ecuenet=2Ecom/archive/el-announce/ LM_NET Supporters: http://ericir=2Esyr=2Eedu/lm_net/ven=2Ehtml =3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D= -=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D--=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D- -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web=2Ecom/ =2E =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
