SEC: Short story title

I have a student who is looking for a short story.  He
believes the title is "The Velvet" and is a
sci-fi/horror story (similar to Poe) about a room with
velvet walls where you can experience other places and
times through your senses.  He read it in a class in
another school, and thinks it's in a book by the same
name.  He could not recall the author.  I have come up
empty thus far and was wondering if anyone had heard
of something similar--and who the author is.  Thanks!
