We recently had a guest speaker/author/ 28 year columnist Washington Post/DC journalist Colman McCarthy on the curriculum topic of teaching peace. As we looked at how this is represented in curriculums and = proportionate to the time spent on war in history as the response to = failed effort at negotiating and cooperation, or as acts of aggression, = it made me look at how the library collection reflected this imbalance as well. A search for books under subjects like non-violence, peace, treaties, cooperation and negotiation skills in politics as well as on the = playground found many more available than I had ever considered . This was a wake = up call to refresh my collection so students have better access to these = ideas and it added a fresh touch to the Martin Luther King display.=20 Paula Brown, Librarian=20 CFS The School at Church Farm vbpaula@erols.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
