My daughter is looking for a poem she first read two years ago in a high school literature class. All she can remember, other than that she really liked it and wants to read it again, is that the speaker was a young woman, perhaps talking to her mother or thinking about advice her mother had given her. She thinks the poet may have been a black woman. She says that at the time she read it she told me that students in my middle school would like it. Can anyone identify the poem or suggest where I might look?
