Dear friends and librarians, I have previously seen e-mails concerning ESL students, but have skipped over them since we had none. We just found out Friday afternoon that there would be a little boy in the second grade beginning Monday who speaks Spanish. Needless to say, we are unprepared. Can you please recommend any particular program, series of textbooks, etc. which would help us to better serve his educational needs?? I dashed out to the local educational supply house Saturday and picked up a few odds and ends [flash cards, one or two workbooks in both English and Spanish, and a book for the teacher to help her communicate with the child and his parents.] I also purchased two copies of several well known stories -- one in English and one in Spanish: Curious George, Goodnight Moon, M & M counting book, Alexander who used to be rich ..., George and Martha, The little mouse, the red ripe strawberry, and the big hungry bear, and Quick as a Cricket. We really need your advice since this is a new situation for us. Thank you for any suggestions or help which you can share.
