Hi, everyone. I will be leading some writing workshops with grades 3-5 in the coming weeks, and one of our exercises will be to write "blues" poems modeled after a Langston Hughes poem. By way of introducing the lesson, I would like to provide students with a brief (3-5 minutes) but honorable overview of the origins of Blues music, leading up to "the blues" also being synonymous with feeling sad. I want to do justice to this amazingly rich part of African-American/American musical history, and the oppression it arose from, so am turning to you all for help. Thank you, Shelley Paul _____________________________ Shelley Paul Poet, Teacher & Performer Atlanta, GA http://sbpaul.home.mindspring.com sbpaul@mindspring.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
