Dear Brant
What age group are you looking for?

You can always get the kids to think about what if questions - identify some
key parts of the story and have the students predict alternative
solutions...

For instance,
How do you think Cinderella might have ended if she had not heard the clock
chime twelve and she kept on dancing?
What if Ron had not been able to play chess at the end of Harry Potter and
the Philosopher's Stone.

Or ask them what they would have done in a particular set of circumstances.
Or how they would have persuaded the hunter not to kill them in the forest a
la Snow White. And then have them write the conversation.

The aim is to get them to use their higher order thinking skills - there are
also a lot of suggestions under write a review at
