Just to add a UK perspective. Like Diane I think book challenges here
are exceedingly rare. On the other hand, in spite of our low murder
rate, I think there is a (largely unjustified) climate of fear, which
has led to great restrictions on the free movement of our children
and old people. The low murder rate is probably due in great part to
the very restricted access to guns here, though there is a small but
growing problem of gang warfare, where the members have access to
guns. 2 teenage girls were recently caught in crossfire and died. The
brother of one of them is in one of the gangs! This had led to calls
for even greater penalties for gun possession.
