I have accepted a position for next year in an elementary school where the current media specialist has fixed scheduling for grades K-5, a total of 500 students on a weekly basis. In my current position, I have fixed scheduling for grades k-2 and then flex scheduling for grades 3-11. My question is two fold: firstly, what approach should I take with the principal to move towards a more reasonable and research based use of my time? My sources say he would seem to be willing to welcome some changes. Secondly, in your opinions, what is the best scenario for elementary flex and fixed scheduling? Last of all, if a change does occur and I believe it would have to be well planned and gradual, how do I convince a rather conservative faculty to give up their "prep" time for the betterment of the LMC program? Thanks for your help!
