Hello,
I have two separate questions that have me stumped.
First, I had a request for a fiction book for a girl who may be
considering suicide. Her teacher would like a fiction book about a
character who deals with depression in a positive way. I have searched
many places, and I can find lots of books in which characters do commit
suicide, or are have family members who do, but we're looking for one
where the characters don't commit suicide. Also, this girl suffers from
clinical depression--many fiction books about depressed teens focus on
sexual or physical abuse, or eating disorders, or depression due to a
death in the family or a loss. She doesn't have any of these kinds of
problems and we're looking for something that focuses more on what it's
like to suffer from clinical depression. (There are lots of good NF
titles about living with depression, and we know about those.) I'm
amazed that I can't find a single fiction title that fits this
description. Maybe someone needs to write one!
Also, our FACS teachers (Family and Consumer Sciences) would like a
video that will help their students feel empathy toward students that
are bullied and harassed. They don't want an educational video about
bullying--they're looking for a good story that will make the students
see things from the point of view of the bullied children.
Any ideas on either topic would be greatly appreciated!
