resources I have used to have information like this at my fingertips -
the best one is Publishers Marketing Association. www.pma-online.org
This organization also leads to other sites that are full of
information. One of the reasons I had to start a publishing company was
to actually get an LCCN...they do not allow "self-publishers" to get an
LCCN.
I have recently started my own publishing company in order to publish my
own book and would warn anyone who is interested in self-publishing to
do a lot of research before jumping into this crazy business! If your
author friend would like to contact me directly, I would be more than
happy to help him along!

how, without a publisher, one gets an ISBN number as well as Library of
Congress Cataloging-In-Publication Data on the verso of the title page.
