I would like to have our 9th grade English classes read their choice of either a dystopian or utopian novel during this coming year. I've got a great lesson plan from MarcoPolo that I can use for the unit. The problem is that the MarcoPolo lesson is only on dystopian novels and only lists a few titles for the students to choose from. I would like to provide a more varied selection and also allow the choice between dystopian and utopian novels since I'm not sure that every student needs to be reading "dark visions". I've chosen several titles through researching Google, going to lists on Amazon, and through my own reading, but I wonder what titles I'm neglecting to include that are already in my library collection. If the collective genius could share with me your choices of dystopian and utopian novels suitable for ninth-graders (we'll be sending home synopses and a permission slip) I will post a hit to share the information.
