This allows the user or teacher to isolate materials that will be relevant to lower (or higher) readers. Some of the most interest from my users come from the government information that ranges from 5th grade level to 21+ level. The CIA has some of the higher levels of materials available on some of our databases. For those who are interested in which databases we have, they are: Electric Library SIRS Researcher SIRS Government Reporter ProQuest Direct Gale's--- Kid's Edition Kid's InfoBits Junior Edition Student Edition General Reference Center Gold Expanded Academic ASAP Professional Collection Junior Reference Collection Discovering Collection Student Resource Center GOLD Student Resource Center-- Health Module Informe Infotrac Newspapers Texas Almanac Literature Resource Center Scribner's Writer Series Twayne's Author Series What Do I Read Next? ~Shonda Brisco Trinity Valley MS/ US Librarian Fort Worth, TX sbrisco021@charter.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Alice Anderson" <maryalicea@MAC.COM> To: <LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU> Sent: Monday, July 07, 2003 7:07 PM Subject: TARGET: Technology and reading > Hi, > > I am looking for ideas about ways imedia specialists use EVERYDAY technology tools to help with reading. > > Here are examples---can you add to the list? > > 1 typing text into using Microsoft Word to get a readability level > 2. making good use of the reading level/interest level fields in an online catalog > 3. scanning text with OCR software and putting it into word > 4. using web sites that provide reading level information.
