RE: Jane Kurtz's website -- temporary address
Many of you know of Jane Kurtz's writing: Storyteller's Beads,
Jakarta Missing, Rain Romp, and her two new books Bicycle Madness and
Saba: Under the Hyena's Foot. (reviews at

I know many of you work on developing units during the "off" season.
:>) Those of you who are wishing to visit Jane Kurtz's author site
-- and reading about her recent visit to Ethiopia and other parts of
Africa may want to know that her domain: www.janekurtz.com is
undergoing a transition due to some technical slips and temporarily
her site may be accessed at:
http://208.252.115.246
The situation is only temporary so do keep http://www.janekurtz.com
in your lesson plans and bookmarks but for the time being you may
want to bookmark this URL as well. As soon as www.janekurtz.com is
up and running this temporary address will not be viable -- a couple
of weeks maybe at most.
BTW in addition to being a wonderful literature resource -- the
information on her site about contemporary Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya
and so forth) would be very valuable in any upper elementary or
middle school study of the continent or specific countries. Her
well-written narratives about her and her family's trip to the area
bring the immediacy of the area to the forefront. Some lovely
photographs of the area are included. There is also a section on the
opening of the first children's book center in Ethiopia. The rise
(and so far very successful) of this project is due much to Jane who
supported the project from the start with energy and funds. Take a
look, it may have potential for a great global service project for
your students. There are links on her site to the specific pages.
