HIT: MARC Field for Grant $$ titles

Hello,

Thank you to those who responded to my question re:
what MARC field to note grant money titles. I think I
will stick my info in the 536 field and search as a
keyword search.  Check below for more ideas.

Responses are as follows:

- The proper MARC field for funding info is 536 but
only info in a 6XX field shows up as an actual subject
heading.

Some systems do keyword searching on notes fields
(5xx).  You may also want to consider using the 526
field which is for Study Program Information.

-If your system does not do keyword searching, then
you would need to use/also use a 6xx field,  but
putting BATS Grant 03-04 in 6xx is not going to match
any Sears or LC subject headings.  If I were doing it
this way I'd use 699

-Other reading programs such as AR are entered in 526.
 It is searchable as a keyword but I think if you
wanted to do a subject search you would have to enter
it in the 600s.

-If you want to pull this up as a subject (as opposed
to just entering info in the record), you should use a
6xx tag.  It doesn't seem to fit under a 610 or 611,
so probably the 690 tag, if not 650.  What ever you
decide, do one record and determine how your search
function will retrieve the data.
