Hi Everyone! > I have relied on the collected wisdom of all of you many times this = month =3D > - here I go again! In my K-2 elementary school teachers have their own = =3D > sets of leveled books for guided reading. A second grade teacher asked = me =3D > if I knew of any website or simple method for leveling books from her = own =3D > personal collection (they are not part of any set). Any way, this = summer =3D > she wanted to take her 600 plus titles and assign them levels according = to =3D > the Fountas and Pinnell letter system. Any advice or websites? >=20 > Thanks, > Janie Kantner, Library Media Specialist > Indian Trail Elementary, Canal Winchester, OH > jkantner@canalwin.k12.oh.us=20 > Hi! I've been working all year with the third grade teacher to develop a = leveled book collection. Leveling the books is quite a task. Start with = the Fountas & Pinnell book for K - 3 _Matching Books to Readers_, use = scholastic catalogs, and some other catalogs, as well as the Follett one = that can be requested. Websites - there is not one that is easy, but = trying publishers websites, going to guided reading and searching can = bring up some titles. Finally, if you seach the LM_NET archives for 2002, = I had a request and responses that might help level afew more books. Good luck! Nancy A. Nancy Andersen, K-8 Librarian OLC School, 606 Lowell Ave. Erie, PA. 16505 andersen@olcs-erie.com=20 I had a book that does just that, but I can't remember the name of it. = Try Linworth or one of those kinds of places that does professional books. = I think Guided Reading was in the title. Lorraine Smith Librarian Lake Pointe Elementary School Austin, TX 78738 smithlo@laketravis.txed.net=20 Get a guide that has the lettering system, and what the lexile scales are within that letter. Then go onto Scholastic Reading Counts website and = look up each title. They list the lexile number. It is easy to fit it into = the lettering system.
