Since reading it shortly after its publication, I have been assertive in my
promotion of "Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress" to all passersby!
It's one of the best coming-of-age novels I've ever read, and the Cultural
Revolution is just a very interesting backdrop for universal themes.  I
finally got to see the movie over the weekend (in Mandarin but with English
subtitles), and it does full justice to the book with the only significant
deviation a very appropriate visual-medium ending.

Run, don't walk.......
