A teacher in my county is looking for a book title...can anyone please
help?
The book is about a little black girl who is abused by her stepfather. She
goes down to the sea, sings a jingle, and is given a gold coin by a mermaid.
She takes the coin home and her stepfather takes it and gets drunk. The
mermaid wants her to go under the sea, but she can't go back home. The
little girl wants to capture the mermaid. (Some "facts" may be mixed up.)
