While I don't disagree at all, my previous district was one in which
few librarians made use of those recommendations. Solution? Their
positions were eliminated. "Dinosaurs!" that's what one admin called
them. "Why do we need them when we have a computer in every classroom?"
the superintendent said to me one day.
I spent as much time as I could "marketing" so to speak. Solution? A new
position was created so I could stay on.
But I left anyway. I'm now in a district where libraries are (knock
on wood) reasonably well supported. But budget cuts loom ahead and
I worry about history repeating itself. I also know the district
our superintendent came from eliminated librarians once upon a time.
So I market, market, market.
