To All - Just to jump in with Peter, it really is a shame what the government is doing to ERIC and AskERIC. The cost for ERIC is a rounding error in the of the Department of Education budget. The entire ERIC system gets less than $10 million. Just one education lab gets more than this amount, not to mention all the other programs. ERIC isn't always "in the news." It's been around for over 30 years. It isn't always sexy or new and different - it just works!! Related to LM_NET, the ERIC Clearinghouse on Information & Technology and AskERIC at Syracuse University have been wonderful supporters for over 10 years - at no cost to us. Syracuse University in particular deserves a lot of credit for supporting us. To repeat Peter's comments, LM_NET is in no danger. Even if something should happen to AskERIC, Syracuse University will likely still support us. And, in the event that they do not, we have many other supporters. So, for LM_NET, fear not. If you want to fear, fear for open access to education information in this country, in particularly to the full range of views gathered, organized and offered through the entire ERIC system. In the event that AskERIC is unable to host us, we will find another way to continue. I mention this because some very loyal members have been writing that they are quite concerned, even going to the trouble of finding alternative means to have an LM_NET forum on another listserver host. In the event that it comes to that point, we will make the necessary arrangements. There is NO need at this time to find other hosting for lM_NET. Thak you all for your kind and supportive thoughts. We appreciate your backing and participation. Peter Milbury, LM_NET Co-Moderator School Librarian/CA TeleMentor, Chico HS, Chico, CA ............................................................
