That sounds wonderful. I think a lot of us would be interested in getting
together for a conference. But as a fairly new librarian, with a new house
and student loans and a small salary, I can not afford a cruise, even if I
wanted to! Could something be organized on a local level to start out?

Hello, Everyone!

Back in November, someone posted a query regarding travel opportunities =
and I responded by offering to organize an LM_NET group cruise. Many =
people replied with interest!=20

What I neglected to mention was making this a Professional Development =
cruise by having Peter and other members present seminars during the "at =
sea" days. There is such a wealth of knowledge and experience out there =
(on LM_NET) that finding topics wouldn't be a problem at all. On a 7 =
Day cruise the "at sea" days are usually 3 or 4 days. Since people =
would want time to enjoy all the amenities onboard, we could just allot =
a part of those days for sessions.

There is no charge for meeting rooms on cruise ships and the onboard =
entertainment is already planned and included in the cost. Dentists, =
doctors, and other professionals often hold their conferences on a =
cruise ship and get to write their expenses off . . . so why not library =
media specialists?!

Someone suggested an Alaskan cruise. Anyone interested for next =
summer?
