Has this test been written yet? Does anyone have a clue on what the book
level will be? I have to decide with her selection of words being used, if
I can purchase this for a k-6 school. Anyone else have any thoughts?
Why does there have to be a test???? Can't the kids (or anyone else) read
it for the sheer enjoyment?
I have 5 copies in my library (K-6) but because of the age of the characters
and the themes that are apparently explored (I haven't read very much of it
yet) I have decided to restrict it to Yrs 5 & 6. However, other students
may borrow it if they have written permission from their parents. Some
parents have reserved it so they can read it aloud to their kids, but the
real fans actually bought their own anyway.
In making this decision I also took into account the size of the book and
the likelihood that your average younger reader would be able to read it in
the two week borrowing period. It needs to be in regular circulation to
satisfy the demand. I am encouraging our younger readers to read the
earlier titles in the series to start with. My message is that it is a
serious read, not a status symbol... and not something that needs a test.
