My crusade for this upcoming school year is to convince the Powers that Be
in my school that we need a district librarian. We have about 800 students
at my K-2 school, and about that many at each of the other 4 sites in our
system. I have an assistant, but none of the other librarians do. We had a
great exodus of librarians in our district this past year....(everyone left
except me), so I will have a whole new group of comrades next year. I would
like to bring this idea up our beginning of the year librarian's meeting,
but I need to get my ducks in a row first. I'd like to hear from anyone who
has a district librarian (or some other type of central/head post that may
be named otherwise). Mainly, I need to know these things:
What are your job duties?
Is your salary supplemented?
Do you divide your time between schools in the district? If so, how?

Mostly, I'm looking for justifications for needing this position in our
district, and I'd like to have a "vision" of what the job entails in case it
becomes a reality. Of course, I have my personal reasons for wanting a
district librarian, but I don't think they alone are convincing enough to
get the necessary changes made. So, I need some strong, persuasive ideas.
Thanks in advance for your help!
