"(Cross-posted)
    To anyone still out there,
    I have a teacher coming in to do research on Drugs in a few weeks (we =
are =3D
    year-round). I'm looking for reliable websites. I will be searching =
the =3D
    archives and such myself, but if you know of any great sites I would =
love =3D
    to have you send them to me."

Thank you to all who responded. Besides what is below, I received two =
attachments with lists of websites. If you are interested in those, let me =
know.

These are the ones that we use with our 8th and 9th graders for their drug =
reports.

National Institute on Drug Abuse

There is lots of information on this site.

Also try www.vivisimo.com as a search engine (it's one of my favorites).

I had a gr. 6 teacher looking for "impact of drugs on the human body" the =
other day, and I came across this website. It has a lot of information, =
but is organized in a way that seemed to make sense to the gr. 6 students.

California's state agency, Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, in =
Sacramento, has a Resource Center that offers a clearinghouse with =
hundreds of free items to mail upon request, a statewide toll-free number, =
and a research library.=20
    This is the website link: http://www.adp.ca.gov/RC/rc_sub.shtml =
Go to the www.adp.ca.gov site for an overview of the reach of the =
department. I was once their librarian. =20

There should be an abundance of good information online, although if I =
were doing that sort of inquiry (which in fact I have in the past, both =
for a state agency and for a legislative caucus), I would also investigate =
the print resources -- primarily recent books -- available in a college or =
university library, if at all possible. Some trolling at Amazon and at =
online library catalogs (Library of Congress, University of California's =
Melvyl system, etc.) should help to provide leads to books worth looking =
for.

As for Web resources, I would start with the Librarians' Index to the =
Internet, http://lii.org/. Search on the word drugs (http://lii.org/search=
?m=3Dp&query=3Ddrugs&Search=3DSEARCH+LII.ORG&searchtype=3Dkeywords) , and =
then on other appropriate terms. That should lead to enough quality =
material for any diligent researcher -- and I say that as someone who did =
this sort of thing for a living for a long time and who now freelances as =
a researcher and writer.

My own http://www.umbachconsulting.com/research/libraries.html might also =
provide some useful indirect leads.

Using lii.org, and the keyword drugs, the following sites came up.=20
http://lii.org/search?m=3Dp&query=3Ddrugs&searchtype=3Dkeywords=20
****
Look up drug abuse at http://medlineplus.gov/ This site has good reliable =
information on any medical issues=20
****
I found several authorative sites using the Librarian's Index to the =
Internet subject directory at http://www.lii.org The sites are pre-evaluate=
d and selected by librarians, 31 using the search term drug abuse and 128 =
using the search term drugs.=20

Try our high school's website http://www..kc-usd.k12.ca.us/rhs/libpages/de=
fault.html Scroll down to "Teacher Units." Go to "Mrs. Zavala - Drugs." =
You will find a list of web sites.
****
That is an awfully broad topic, but perhaps a Web Resource List I just=20
created may be of some use:
<http://www.my-ecoach.com/myproject/webresourcelist.php?rlid=3D234>

The title: Plants Can Cure You.
The question: "In what ways do plans have the power to cure?"

The overview introduction to the above site: "The purpose of this web=20
resource list is to provide students with sites which reveal the medicinal =
powers of=20
the plant kingdom."

I am approximately two-thirds of the way through the process; the above =
site=20
has a dozen links and will have an additional seven or eight by the end =
of=20
this week. I made this Web Resource List (AKA a "pathway") after a request =
from a=20
science teacher at my middle school who wanted her students to study=20
medicinal plants.=20

Try Drugs.com a site developed by students for students. Also contains
cross curriculum teaching learning lessons.
