Publishing Companies

Do any of you know anything about a publishing company called "1st Book"?  I
have a friend who has contacted them to publish her book for five or six
hundred dollars.  They ask for the book on a disk and will publish it as is.
I am a little concerned that they may not be on the level.  This is the first
book my friend has considered having published.  I felt sure some of you
might have heard of the company before.  Thanks for any help you can give.
