I would like to thank the list members for their generous and creative responses to my question regarding how others thank library volunteers. I got many good ideas, some I will use this year and others I will save for future years. If anyone wants a complete "hit" they may respond to me personally. Generally, people served a luncheon or tea for their volunteers (homemade food). Small gifts were given, purchased through catalogs such as Demco, Highsmith, etc. Some made handmade gifts such as bookmarks, cookie "kits" in jars, plants grown from seed, adopting books in their name, certificates, thank you notes, etc. As of this writing I am planning a luncheon in the library with homemade food that my library aide and I will prepare. I found some inexpensive tote bags with sayings about reading in a catalog which will be purchased at my expense(I only have 4 regular volunteers). We will also put an adopted book in their name in the bag. The other ideas I have filed away for next year when hopefully these same moms will be back (and others, too)!
