Looking for 9th gr. short stories

Hello all,
From one of our English teachers:

"I am looking for books to use next fall for our new program called
Connections.  It is a freshman program for students taking English,
World Cultures, and Biology.  I am particulary looking for a short story
collection with stories from China, Japan, India, and South America on
the 9th grade level in a reasonable price range for students to
purchase.   There seem to be quite a few collections of stories of
coming to America or immigrant stories, but I am looking for stories
from/about these countries, not the U.S. experience.  I found one book,
Other Vistas, Other Voices but the reading and appeal level was above
9th grade.  Any suggestions, please help.  I need to have put the book
in for approval like yesterday.

I am also still looking for suggested novels on the 9th grade level from
Japan or India.  I have selected Da Chin's China's Son for the novel
from China. "

Do any of you have suggestions?
