I, too, had a TV in the corner of the media and let CNN run all day at a low volume. At the first of each period, everyone sat around quietly and watched. Later in the period, interest would lag and they would cluster in their regular groups. Teachers would stop in from time to time to catch up on the latest. Those who needed to work sat on the other side of the room. All said they were not bothered by the TV. I guess they're used to the background noise. My principal was at first concerned that it might be distracting, but the students all seemed to appreciate it.
