Well, I just read Judas in Kilkenny. It has a mother
daughter theme, but the mother-daughter relationship
has an element of alcholism. The book also has a
sister-sister theme as well. There are also sad
moments (i.e., death of a young boy due to scalding --
not too graphic though in terms of the way the
situation is described by the author), but there also
very pleasant events as well. So, it might be okay for
the age group you are looking at -- but might need
some direction on the part of an adult. There is no
sex or swearing in the book except for the odd
"musha". :)
