I used ZoneAlarm for awhile. Was effective. There are a couple of
versions. One is free, the other has a 30 day trial.
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp and click on downloads.

However, you may want to consider getting a router ($50-100, so in same
price range). They block like a firewall and offer networking behind it.
I get the same security reports with each, basically your IP number
looks like nothing is behind it.

With either one, you still need good virus protection of course.

There is a good review of the differences and strengths of each at
http://www.roanoke.com/roatimes/news/story129307.html

I just upgraded to a wireless router from Linksys. It came with a trial
package of Symantec software like popupblocker, spam and banner ad, and
a firewall.

Hi,
Is there a free firewall available for download on the internet?
We're getting a cable modem tomorrow. I'm planning to purchase one, but
haven't made a decision on which one to buy (I'd appreciate your
thoughts on that, too).
I have a Compac, running Windows ME.
                        TIA,
                                Cher
