Title: The Word on Libraries
by Sophy Burnham (1990 Book of Angels author)

Thought LM_NETters would enjoy reading this. Ann

Summary: Proposed reduction of Washington D.C. library
funding. Historical statistics of reduction of funding.
("Library staffing is down 40 percent from the mid-1970's...
the District has 200 fewer librarians than it had 30 years
ago.) Followed by reasons why libraries should be supported
because of the broad spectrum of usage by the public. I
love the ending sentence: "It [the D.C.Public Library] is
an investment in our children, our culture, our political
system and our sanity."
