As the books were checked out, we discarded the cards.  After five
years, all books with cards still in the pockets had not be checked
out and thus were candidates for weeding.  After ten years, they were
REALLY candidates for weeding.  That way I didn't have to go look up
circ records--I just needed to look for the circ card.
