IMHO you don't need 'em! We automated years ago, got rid of cards,
pockets, card catalog and shelf list and haven't missed them one bit.
The few times we have been down it has only been for a day at the most
and we just write down the book barcode numbers next to the students'
names on a master class list.

The main thing to remember when you get back on line after you ARE
down, is to check everything out first that you have written down, even
if it means that some kids are over their limits and then check
everything in. You don't let ANYONE check out books from the return
stacks until after you have caught up.
