May I extend my sympathy, on behalf of all your Australian colleagues, to
all of you who have been affected by those terrible tornadoes that are
dominating our news bulletins here. I cannot imagine how terrifying they
must be, and so many homes and lives lost rings a resonant note with us
given our fiery summer.

I am currently writing a series of letters for the bushfire kids using two
teddies - Ella and Bamma from Alabama - as the key characters and feel a
real affinity with the folk in these parts of your country. I shall try to
weave 'their' fears for their families into the letters as the key purpose
of the letters is to explore the children's very natural worries and
concerns in an impersonal way. So if any of you have anything that would
help me make this more authentic, I would love to hear from you.

Barbara
