Our new English teacher read Geeks, by Jon Katz, over the break and is
very excitied about teaching it next year to her 11th graders. (Geeks is
a true story of two 19 year olds who leave Idaho for Chicago, and make new
lives for themselves in the computer industry. It's a great book on
mentoring, and was even recommended in Phi Delta Kappan about a year ago.)

One item of concern for her Dept Chairman is the use of the F word in it a
few times. (It is nowhere near as prolific as the verbiage in Catcher in
the Rye.)

We need to see if any other school has used this as assigned class
reading. If so, please let me know, or pass this message on to the
teacher who uses the book, and have her/him respond directly to me.

I've read the book myself, and recommended it to this teacher, but we want
to cover the bases. I think it is perfect for this age group, who are
busy thinking about their own futures. I'll post a hit of the responses.

TIA
