Thanks to those who responded to my question concerning the differences between Outlook and OE. I have received the following replies and this will help me make my decision. One difference is that OE can access newsgroups, and Outlook doesn't. Maybe you've already gotten a reply on this. But OE is strictly for email management. The full Outlook includes calendar and schedule functionality. It's a "personal information manager." Outlook Express is a stripped down version that does email, and you have an address book. Outlook has a calendar function, a much more sophisticated contact manager program, and task manager. In LAN versions, it is also possible to set it up to synchronize appointments with other people on the system. Outlook is "industrial strength" and therefore built for major/large organizations and their information management needs. For example, a purchasing department's software package could automatically interact with the organization's Outlook accounts (whether by importing them or Outlook exporting the data). Our district uses Lotus Notes, the other biggie, and does so because Outlook is so virus/worm prone due to it's prevalence (as is OE). Notes has a bulit-in threading/discussion capability for tracking who sends what to whom, and responses. I would imagine Outlook does, too. Outlook for home use, or by an individual's own preference, might be considered overkill. On the other hand, there might be features to be used. Outlook costs, OE doesn't. ===== Wanda Nall Library Media Specialist Hereford ISD Hereford, Tx 79045 wandanall@hisd.net __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo!
