Hi all, I have been asked by a couple of teachers to attend their novel studies planning meeting tomorrow morning. This is a major breakthrough and an opportunity I don't want to blow! However, after years of service to a primary only crowd, my knowledge of intermediate level titles is a little rusty, so I'm turning to you for advice. They are interested in using themes as a way to organize their year and help make connections with the art and music specialists. So far, I've heard chocolate, fairy tales/tall tales/fables, overcoming adversity, WWII/Holocaust and an author study given as possibilities.=20 I would appreciate any specific authors/titles that might fit these themes. The teachers would like a wide range of reading levels, and I'm hoping to talk them into including some non-fiction and some varying perspectives (for example, the experience of Japanese Americans during WWII in addition to European concentration camp experience). Since their plans are not set in stone, any other novel study ideas that have worked well for your intermediate students/teachers would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance, and yes, I will find time somehow to post a hit if I get some good responses!
