It's pretty simple, really. Is the showing the movie integral to =
instruction? Is the teacher doing a unit involving Uncle Remus stories? =
If not and the showing is for entertainment purposes AND your district has =
not paid for public performance rights, then you would be violating =
copyright. Disney has very vigorously pushed for copyright extension in =
the past few years and was a major player in getting Congress to change =
the rules.

As for whether or not it should be shown, that's not a matter of being =
"PC" If I had a book with depictions similar to the movie in my library, =
it would probably be removed from the collection. Do six and seven years =
olds have the background knowledge to understand the time and context in =
which the film was released? =20

A first grade teacher has just come in and asked me if it's acceptable to
show the original "Song of the South" in the classroom. I know some might
consider this movie NOT PC, but is it actually in violation of any laws,
statutes, etc? Thanks in advance for your help.
