Dear LM-NET Colleagues,

My school is less that a mile from the site of the Station night club
fire of February 20. The 100th victim of that fire died this week. I
cannot describe the depths of that tragedy in this community. Relatives
of our students died. Parents in our school community were first
responders and are trying to cope. Our students were exposed to a
constant barrage of horrible sounds and images.

Our fire inspection last week resulted in the same situation you
describe. Extension cords were immediately confiscated, flammable
material must come down, etc. Our building is one-level, 12 years old,
has sprinklers, and every classroom has an exit to the outside as well
as to the corridor. Maybe the codes should be examined and re-written.
However, we cannot expect fire officials to overlook infractions to fire
safety codes as they are now written. Living with the moral and legal
consequences if something does happen is too great a burden.
